Living in DC area -- Advice?

Just this morning, I drove around a bit in North Arlington / Ballston area. Very varied housing stock, small houses, big houses, townhoses etc. While Rosslyn may be beyond bicycle range, it is 4 stops on the subway.

Nah -- Rosslyn is like 2-3 mile ride.

Warm up.

Yeah, but lots of crazy drivers during morning commute (and if not crazy, too distracted beetween their vanilla double-shot, non-fat latte in one hand and their blackberry in the other). Don't know what backroads connect the two areas, but the main highways are not exactly bicycle friendly territory.

Very true...

But DC (and Arlington County) are very well served by bicycle trails. My search has been limited to apartments along those corridors.
