I took a one hour ground school lesson ( IFR written coming this week) yesterday with a different instructor and for a moment we started talking about the weather outside. In just a minute he pulled out his tablet and had the full spectrum on a screen.
I have a traditional instructor who likes to use the phone and the desktop for weather, and I greatly appreciate all that and the time it gives to plan a safe flight. BUT, it's also hard to ignore what can be brought with you as well.
What program/app are you guys using on a tablet or Ipad for live weather and are you paying a monthly fee for it?
On my I phone I use FlyQ which I use to check weather at different airports but I don't know if it has a feature to map out weather over a chart like I had seen yesterday.
Thanks in Advance,

With internet access or without? As in preflight weather planning, or weather enroute? I use Foreflight, but there are tons of options for weather on your iPad (or other tablet). For enroute weather, you're looking at an ADS-B in receiver, which costs $400-$800 but requires no monthly fees.

Foreflight is a good one.

Just keep in mind, aside from onboard radar, there is no such thing as live weather.

Welcome to POA....

I have Foreflight and Garmin Pilot and both have overlay options for winds, sky cover, dewpoint, visibility, etc. They get cluttered quickly but you can get some good info with a little practice.

For weather at an airport I look at the AeroWeather app. ATIS and METAR info for airports with weather reporting are generally shown and current.

NOAA has a good aviation weather unit up here. They have live precip radar but I know in the south there are other radar apps that may be better.

And we Alaskans are spoiled with an abundance of real time weather cams and easy internet access at least where we have cell data service available.

And I still like windyty.com for winds and winds aloft. Some guys claim it's not accurate. I've found it to be very good.

I use WingX Pro7. In the airplane I have an iLevil GPS/AHRS/ADS-B receiver that feeds the ADS-B weather to the program that overlays on the moving map. On the ground it obtains weather information from 'Velocity Weather by Baron' through WiFi. There is no charge for either Baron or ADS-B weather.

So what is the difference between Stratus 1 or 2?
I understand that one is single band and the other is duel band but that does that mean to the end user?

Also, I believe the Stratus couples up to the I-pad or Tablet but then it needs a program like Foreflight. Doesn't Foreflight charge for this service?
Thanks Again

I use FF with a Stratus2 ,allows me to check meters as I tavel, allowing me to divert to an alternate early in the flight.
