Here is a thread to make a goto list of Airports in America (land of capitalism and freedom and all that) that do NOT allow competition. By not allowing private enterprise to set up business and compete with the local government run FBO they are not allowing free and open markets to thrive, IMO.

They do this by restricting fuel sales. If I own an FBO but cannot pump fuel how can I possibly compete? And why do I have to compete with the freaking government?

This is NOT a forum to complain about the government. I don't want this thing to end up in the SpinZone. This isn't left or right, red or blue, donkey or elephant. This is simply a list of airports that employ this monopolistic attitude as a means for pilots to see and avoid if they agree with that point of view.

Please keep the list current by copying the list above your post and adding your airport input into the mix in alphabetical order.

Thank you. I'll start with my submission on post two so this blurb doesn't end up in every post. PS, might be worth a sticky. Dunno, ITPTB agree.

Although it's better than most private FBOs in terms of price and service.

Do we know whether or not these airports allow competition or is there just coincidentally one FBO on the field.

KBAZ shut down the competition, and will no longer let them sell gas. There is actually a thread on PoA about it somewhere.

ARW - Beaufort SC - I think they WANT someone to come in but they think their glorified box called the 'FBO' is worth thousands a month in rent . . . .

Yeah, I don't want to avoid the small field that only has one FBO due to field size. This is for the local government fields that screw local competition out of business through shady rules and restrictions. Ie, nobody can sell gas or perform Mx except us...the government (city or county).

What's that airport up in NJ or Long Island? ...The fire department pumps all the field gas. There's another FBO but they have to call the fire department to pump their gas for them. As I recall the fire department in in the middle of the field, north side to 2 intersecting runways that form an 'X'. Any ideas?
