"Liberty Girl" Comes Home

Awesome! If it's really Patton's plane, it ought to be in a museum when it's done.

Only $25k to restore it? Sounds pretty cheap.

Maurice Kirk, right removes the gas tank of a WWII airplane believed to have been flown by Gen. George Patton from the back of a pick up truck on Tuesday

The posthumous accomplishments of Gen. Patton are astonishing.

So, let me see, do I have this right? A dead general flew an airplane off the back of a pickup truck? :dunno:

Early today I had a humorous (we were both howling) talk with a photo editor at the Bangor Daily News. He had nothing to do with the caption(which was written by the credited photographer) but he conference-connected me to a copy editor who commented that the faux pas would probably be corrected. He also said that there are anywhere up to four copy editors who could have spotted the error. BDN is Maine's 2nd largest daily, and I'll bet a lot more people read the paper edition than the online version.
