Hi all! New guy here. I've been following this forum for quite a while and am finally ready to dive in.

Me, middle-aged student pilot flying out of Flagstaff-Pulliam (KFLG) after a nearly 40 year lay-off. Training on a Cessna 172M. I have about 40 hours total, 6 hours solo, have done all my dual x-countries, and only have to do 3 solo x-countries, 8 night landings, and some extra dual prep with my CFII for the Practical. Knowledge test is coming up, too.

I plan to purchase a legacy C-182 after I get my ticket. Hanger space is arranged.

Hope to share and learn from the folks here soon.

Blue Ones!

Welcome! I've validated your user account so you should be good to post. Since this was also a post telling people about yourself, I moved it to Hangar Talk as most users wouldn't have seen it in the Reg. Problems forum.

welcome Bruce. do you know Greg Brown there in Flag? Leah and I spent some time there on our honeymoon, really enjoyed the town.

Welcome! Hope to also meet you in person someday (just like everyone here).

I wholeheartedly agree with your choice of aircraft. Others here will try to talk you into those silly Piper products with the wing on the bottom of the fuselage where you can't see anything you're flying over. ;) :cool2: :D

Welcome... back! Pull up a chair, grab a beverage, and enjoy the hangar flying.

Welcome! Make yourself at home.

A word of warning, though, you may need a beverage made with Everclear if you head into Spin Zone.

Hello. Nice to meet you.

welcome Bruce. do you know Greg Brown there in Flag? Leah and I spent some time there on our honeymoon, really enjoyed the town.

Hi all! Thanks for the nice welcome.

Tony, I'm a Williams local (30' W of Flag), former Flagstaff resident, and own a home in Sedona (thanks, Mom and Dad ). If you ever get into the area, and Greg's otherwise occupied, I can give y'all the cook's tour and any other help/advice you might need.

I DO know Greg Brown. [I even read his Flying Carpet book.] In person, once, in my instructor's office at the Wiseman FBO at KFLG. We've also exchanged several emails and phone calls.

I give Greg credit for saving my hearing. I was having terrible tinnitus early in my training due to the Dave-Clarks I had bought that were NOT ANR. He strongly urged me to return the D-C headset and buy an ANR set. I decided to keep the headset (for future passengers) and bought a D-C 10-13 something or other that has worked like a charm and I can actually understand ATC and other traffic. Sweeeeet!!

I did the usual "should I buy aircraft x or y or z?" thing for a few months, but have finally decided that the C-182 is the one for me--or nothing. Greg has also been a valuable source of info on the C-182 hunt, too.

Flying a high wing is so nice for enjoying all the great sights here in northern Arizona and for getting in/out of some of the more "interesting" destinations (someday). Just to further commit myself I joined the Cessna Pilot's Assn (CPA). My inner bush pilot is getting very excited.

I am just darn lucky on getting the hangar slot. There just isn't anything available up here in rural northern Arizona. I'm staying mum on the details until it becomes a fait accompli.

I may even test the waters with a lunch with the "Airport Slugs" gang out of Flagstaff soon. I've met a handful of the local pilots and like them. I'm also fortunate that both my instructor and Greg Brown are pretty solid on the C-182 and should be able to help me through the learning curve.

One step at a time . . . still gotta get the ticket. :D

Blue Skies!
Bruce

Haven't check out Spin Zone yet. I learned my lesson about drinking while posting a while back, though, :cheerswine: so it's "read only" for me while imbibing. "Eight hours from toast to post" for me, thank-you-very-much.

Welcome to POA Bruce the front porch of aviation. Gald you joined in! Sendona is a beautiful place I love the landscape. Must be beautiful to fly over.

Roger that! Did my first landing at KSEZ last Monday and it was surreal weaving among the spires and setting up for that carrier landing people talk about so much. I felt like I was in the 3D version of Avatar--everything was so multilayered and the spatial effect was dazzling.

Coming in on short final to Rwy 21 with the Airport "Vortex" Mesa in your path is a bit disconcerting. There's plenty of runway, though, so no need to plant it on the numbers. [Keeps the passengers from freaking, too, I'd imagine.]

I plan to park my Dad's pickup at KSEZ for future fly-ins when staying at the Sedona house. Beats the two-hour drive from Williams anyday. :cornut:

Welcome to POA. Glad that you are getting back in the game and that would be sweet to have a vehicle at Sedona and be able to fly in there. Here is a landing I made with my grandson a couple years back. We ate in the cafe before they did away with it. Landing on 03 Sedona.

Welcome to PoA. We have a great community here from nearly all walks of life. If you have a question, you will normally have an answer (or three) in a very short amount of time. It's also a great organization to seek feedback from others on your training and various topics that come up.

Best,
Jason
