Laptop on Plane

I have found no indication that this story is a fake or setup. I know lithium batteries have the potential to explode put this is just scary.

The top of the webpage says:

"Readers without a sense of humour please leave immediately"

Any website that says that would lead me to beleive it is not true.

The video is real. It was a Dell laptop. Whether it had a Dell battery is unknown. Cheap batteries have been known to melt and explode. The factory puts a fuse in battery packs.

What video are you referring too as being real? I couldn't find a video on that website, just a couple snapshots.

He must have been quick with his camera to catch it exploding... not knowing it was going to explode beforehand.

I thought they were stills from a video. Guess not. Just phone cam pics.

Behind the scenes, grey-suited Dell executives have managed to track down the exploding machine before swooping to lock it behind closed doors.

Deep within a Dell bunker at an undisclosed location, technicians in white have determined what we all knew to be true: the battery pack blew up.

The laptop exploded during a conference organised by the Open Mobile Alliance.

Virtually any battery can catch fire or explode under the right circumstances. Even a single flashlight battery.

Inquiring Minds want too know.

I believe I was reading earlier this year about an after market battery on a plane smoldering. It was plugged into the seat power at the time. I'll try looking for the article.

Dell's Exploding Computer and Other Image Problems

A Dell notebook computer that burst into flames last month in Osaka, Japan, has damaged more than just the conference table where it sat smoldering.

The incident, publicized in photos on the Internet, has also hurt Dell's recent attempts to improve its image.
