Looks like someone crumped a Piper Colt (?) in Cortland NY on Monday, July 13. The news reports are a little confusing. (They often are.) The pilot and passenger reported to first responders that they departed the airport and returned due to "winds" and decided to land in the grass on the airport property(?). Surface winds were about 5 knots out of the northwest, pretty much a direct crosswind. From the position of the aircraft based on news photos, just short of RWY 06, it is not clear if they landed short of 06 and tore up the nose gear, or overran runway 24 and groundlooped. Reported wind direction was 290-320 most of the morning. Fortunately, no serious injuries, although the pilot was taken to the hospital to deal with leg and back pain.

News report.

Maybe MuseChaser knows more? I think this is in his bailiwick.
