Lake Placid/Saranac Lake NY

Looking for a fun place to fly for the day on Memorial Day. Was planning on going to Bar Harbor, but my wife and I have been there a few times, and would like to try somewhere new. I was thinking of going to Lake Placid and/or Saranac Lake. Is there enough to do around there to keep us busy for the day? Are things open for the season yet? Are rental cars available at LKP? How about SLK?

To answer my own question, no rental cars at LKP. Hertz at SLK was not sure if they would have cars or not, which seems like a strange answer to me. Also the guy I talked to on the phone said that downtown Lake Placid is under construction, and I got the impression it was a bit of a cluster. So, its off to BHB again for us.

Consider flying into Fryeburg, Maine. KIZG. Nice place, Enterprise will deliver a car there. We did a stopover for a day, drove to the top of Mt Washington etc. Lots of neat stuff in that area/ N.Conway, NH.
