Peaks Island is a part of Portland, Maine. The only access to it is by ferry or private boat. Its population quadruples in the summer; families have owned homes/cottages there for generations and come from far away during the summer months. The residents have tried, unsuccessfully, to secede from Portland and become its own "municipality."

A home out there, bought many years ago for 50-60k, can be seen in recent papers as available for ½ million $$ or more. Enjoy the story!
