LA basin wind patterns

The following airports are shown from east to west in the eastern portion of the Los Angeles basin. KFUL is to the south and is included as kind of a 'control' and indicator of what the winds are away from the mountains at the north perimeter of the basin.

What the heck is going on with the winds? I think I'll never figure out the winds here. I think perhaps there is a convergence zone caused by mtn terrain near KPOC but that's just a WAG.

Looks like a pretty typical "Santa Ana" wind pattern as the high pressure center migrates toward the east. I learned to fly at Fullerton in the '60s, and if runway 6 was in use I knew it would be an interesting lesson that day.
 
Negative on the Santa Ana winds. The lifted index is marginal, there is a 1011 Mb Low offshore of Ensenada with a upper lvl trof extending just off shore of SoCal, making landfall at Pt Conception and going up inland of the coast all the way into OR.

EDIT: The trof basically parallels the jet stream.
