L88 (New Cuyama) Airport Help

I made a precautionary landing at New Cuyama once upon a time and investigated a noise that turned out to be harmless.

Except for the complete lack of trees and shade, it seemed like a cute little desert town- just down the road from the booming metropolis of Buttonwillow!

The first time I heard pilots talking about flying to L88, I thought it was a Japanese name, like Nukiyama.

Nice little place to take a break. Very little traffic,

A little fund raising program to get L88 reopened for operations. It's a nice out of the way airport to check out the location of an infamous Youtube parachute video or grab a bite to eat. https://kindest.com/445222-reopen-l88

I hope it succeeds - it's a shame for a perfectly good airport to go to waste.

One reason to go there in the past was to eat at the Buckhorn (walking distance from the AP). I see that it is still there - with one reviewer saying that it is better than ever, with new owners and extensive remodeling:

"We have received a generous pledge of $375,000 from The San Simeon Fund to allow us to complete the resurfacing of L88 in Summer 2022. While that amount is sufficient to complete the resurfacing work, we have additional related projects that are needed to fully reopen the airport. We are looking for $50,000 of support to help us execute our full scope of work to officially reopen our community’s airstrip!"

Privately owned strip that was closed on the owners own volition. Has a pledge to repave the runway and wants 50k more to remodel the rest of it. I'm sympathetic to a point. But this is a bit much for my taste. Now, a publicly owned airport would have me feeling differently.
