Final Approach
Me and a couple friends flew to Tunica this weekend to help stimulate the local economy .
The only FBO on the field is Tunica Air Center and they get a big for service provided. While they did nothing huge, they did everything right. Examples include: red carpet treatment plane side (my friends were GA virgins and thought it was great), waived over night fee with purchase (not uncommon) and uncommonly friendly folks from the marshal to the lady behind the counter. What really pleased me was this afternoon as we were fixin' to leave. I had to add a quart of oil and didn't have a funnel. The fuel truck was on the tarmac and i was able to catch the gentleman's attention and use sign language on what was needed. He brought the funel over (the cool thread on with the on/off valve) with a shop towel and offered to put the oil in. I declined that offer but he waited with me while the oil was going in just cutting the fat. I asked where he wanted the funnel put up and he said he'll wait and take the empty quart with him as well. While this is nothing specatular, per se, his attitude was over the top. THANKS Tunica Air Center!
For those who may be apprehensive flying into Tunica due to Memphis class Bravo, put those concerns to rest. Each time I have flown into Memphis, and now Tunica, the controllers are always accomodating in letting you cut through their airspace. Coming back this afternoon I had a radio issue and while trying to diagnose it missed a call out for heavy traffic. Departure asked me to ident and swap radios if I heard them. Once swapping radios, his first question was to ask if all was o.k. Not, why the heck did you miss the call, but making sure all was well. He asked if I received the traffic advisory and when I replied I had not due to diagnosing, it was a non-issue.
All in all, great trip (not counting the results at the casino) with great folks all around!
