So I took K flying with me for the first time yesterday. She had a blast! She was a little nervous at first because I had her in the "pilot's seat". But after take-off she took right to it and started to relax. She kept the shiny side up very well and only had some difficultly with rudder and yoke correlation. Which is completely normal for someone new to flying.

After some basic turns, climbs and descents she started to get the feel of the aircraft. She is amazing at picking out where the wind is coming from and timing ETAs. I asked her out of the blue to pick the direction the wind was coming from before doing a wind circle. She was 100% CORRECT! That is light years past any of my current students. She was rattling off ETA to landmarks in front of us. I kept looking out and finding she was no more then about 10-15 secs off.

After a flight around the local lake I had her fly it back to the airport. At that point she did very well keeping it +/- 100' and on course. With some more training she will be a natural.

I didn't let her try to land because the winds were picking up and it was getting choppy. It was a very sporty landing to say the least. I actually found it quite fun and she was smiling on the roll out. She can't wait to the next time we fly.

Tim and David thanks again for taking her up at Gaston's. She had a blast then too.

So now we are off to get her medical worked out and to find money to pay for the rental fees. Full on training her will have to wait until we are in same town next fall. But for now I can get her foundation down.

It doesn't get any better. Nice post!

You didn't let her try to land on her first time flying? What were you thinking?!

Lol I'm gonna video when I take my wife up. I bet we'll see some good footage.

Haha, It was a mutual agreement. She said she will attempt it on our next flight in a few weeks. Once the GoPro footage gets converted and flipped right side up I'll find a way to host it.

I'm gonna make it a secret when I video it. Lol

I will say this just once... She looks like she is having a good time,

he looks "concerned" :)

I need to post a screenshot of when I pulled the power on her. She jumped a little. :D I bet I have pay back on the way, but her reaction was priceless.

Possibly because he's thinking, "I hope she didn't see that roast beef sandwich I stashed in my flight bag for lunch..."

That my friends is the classic pilots grin.

Well, except that K's a lot more deviant than your typical student pilot. I mean, really, can't you just see how well the devil horns go with that expression of her's? ;)

I think there were some wheels churning in there and that's probably why A's expression is so somber/concerned.

<JK guys!>

I will have my work cut out for me when she starts getting use to the aircraft. :D

I can see her being a great student. I'm not saying that because she can see this.

Hmm, I think I'm going to assign all my female friends single letter code names too. How convenient, particularly if you're prone to call them by the wrong name occasionally.

By the way what is that you're flying?

Okay, I won't say it this time.

But, I can't help but to ask. What was the runway surface? ;)

Okay it's a Maule. I went in to his public profile and it's in his signature. I have signatures and avatars disabled to reduce clutter.

Yeah, but it's a Maule with a tail number that ends in HS.

Which, in this case stand for Hard Surface (only).

:goofy:

At least that's our story and we're sticking to it.

A Maule...limited to pavement..might as well be a jeep limited to the four lanes!

(It's an Andrew and Tim inside joke...didn't mean to catch you in the middle of it)

It's okay. I'm shallow. I'll get over it.

I just call them sweetheart. Then you don't HAVE to remember their name.
Of course, make sure they never show up in the same room!
