PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- There is currently a ground stop at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport due to a fire alarm activation in the control tower.


A spokesperson for Phoenix Sky Harbor said the FAA tower has been evacuated. As a result, some flights heading into Phoenix have been diverted. Information from FlightRadar24 shows a couple of flights diverted to Tucson.

Déjà vu all over again. PHX Tower had a fire alarm (false alarm, it turned out) incident in September 2017. Tower and TRACON were evacuated and the airspace turned over to Albuquerque Center.

How can "a couple of flights" be diverted to three different cities?
