Kodiak Float Plane into East River, 7/5/26

Looks like they hit unexpected wake. The landing looks fine up until that moment.

Lots of commercial traffic, sometimes throwing up large wakes. Sorry it happened, but (and I am assuming here…) that is the risk of a water landing in the East River.

Structure looks a little weak.
??? The impact into that wave imparted one hell of a shock load to the float/struts. If that was conventional gear and a runway impact at that force there would likely have been damage.

Even though the floats and attachment struts are built and certified to established standards. It couldn't be that the aircraft obviously hit the wake of a large commercial vessel.

Given the nature of the Kodiak's design, I'd think that it could handle that slam with its ordinary wheeled landing gear.
