Today I did my long X-C from San Diego to KWJF.

However, at WJF, they said I couldn't land and asked me to go northward to L00 - which I did and got fuel.

Everything turned out okay.

However, looking at the chart, I never would have known the L00 had fuel because it doesn't have the knobby things.

Can someone tell me why sometimes an airport that HAS fuel doesn't have the fuel service indicators on the chart?

This wasn't a new gas pump - it has been there a long time.

Tick marks around the basic airport symbol indicate fuel is available and airport tended during normal working hours (M-F 10-4 local time). Other airports (symbols) may or may not have services.

So, if the airport is unattended it just gets the round symbol sans ticks, even if there is a self-serve fuel facility.

Yeah not good for flight planning. Hopefully the AFD (or whatever it's now called) or sites like AirNav.com have the info.

I don't know why the tower wouldn't let you land (if that's what really happened) but, perhaps it has something to do with this:

Sounds like the ATIS I heard at BKL one day. The list of things that were closed was extensive. They were getting ready for the Cleveland Grand Prix which takes place ON the airport.
