Planning on flying a Luscombe from KLOL to KEDU and working on the best route over the Seirra Nevada's when the weather will allow in the next week or so.

I have flown the I-80 route a few times in a a Citabra and Cherokee. However am considering the CA-70 route over the Beckworth pass. The advantages are a lower pass, which is good for the Luscombe and I get to avoid the Reno airspace and the AirRace TFR since I don't have a transponder and limited questionable radio communication.

Any local experience about the CA-70 route, would probably stop at O02 and KOVE. Anything else I should know about this route or a better possible route?

I fly higher than you do but still don't feel comfortable in those mountains. We've gone into Quincy for lunch but I know of a couple planes that have had problems there. Even though they are low passes the roads are just windy in narrow valleys. If you have a problem or the winds come up you'll wish for more room. I'd stick to 80.
Was hangared at EDU for a few years....

I fly from Petaluma to O02 pretty often -- just aim for the sierra buttes (either direction). Keep in mind you'll need to be talking with ATC if you're going to go over Beale because of their semi-permanent TFR. Also, O02 switched their tank over to Jet A when the medivac helicopter based there. They are supposed to get a second tank for 100LL but I don't think it's in yet.

Thanks that is the kind of information I am looking for. Looks like tomorrow morning might work, still haven't decided which way to go for sure yet. I-80 is shorter and the Reno TFR won't be active yet.

Any thoughts on the Carson City to Placerville route? (CA-50)

That's the way I always go when visiting friends in Yerington or just crossing the Sierras on the way to OSH. At lower altitude you could sneak over Spooner and just follow 50. It all depends on how comfortable you are flying over inhospitable terrain. I'm not, so I fly high enough to reach airports. KTVL to KPVF isn't far. From about 8500' you can set up a 100' a minute descent and make some time heading to the valley, ending up around Davis at pattern altitude. We used to go to the casinos in a 172 a lot back in college when nothing scared me.....
Stay on local freqs as several planes can be flying down low in the area doing the same thing and radios don't go far down low in the mountains.

From CXP climb up over spooner summit, follow along the east side of the lake direct TVL. From TVL intercept the hwy 50 corridor direct PVF. From there you're home free.

That is what I ended up doing. I actually flew it from Boise/Nampa KMan to KLOL refueled and then KLOL to KEDU VI's CXP, TVL. Was about 5.5hours of flight time. Was a very pleasant flight 65hp Luscombe 8A is pretty impressive airplane at least with just one person it. This one is a very nice example. Cabin would be a bit tight for two medium to large persons. But averaged 95mph and 4.3gph. Only challenging part of the flight was South of the Rome VOR, at the VOR it was down to about 3miles visibility due to smoke below about 6500ft for about 20 miles south it was under a mile visibility below 6500 feet, at 8500 feet I had 20 miles visibility or more, but couldn't see the ground. Fortunately Winamucca was reporting 10miles visibility and clear so I knew it got better up ahead.
