Ok, so I think I am 1 of 3 people in the US that have a KSN-770 (King's version of the Garmin 530 or Avidyne 540). King had an emulator/simulate that you could download and learn the KSN-770 on your laptop. I have it on my laptop, but now, it doesn't run on my laptop. I am starting my instrument, and needing to learn more features of the box and don't want to have to try to do it while I am up in the air (or sitting in the hangar on the battery), so I thought I would post here to see if anyone:
1) Had a similar experience (the emulator/simulator won't run) and found a solution
2) Have a link to a place it can be downloaded?

I've called King, and while they were nice on the phone, they couldn't help me and I had to e-mail King's tech support. King's tech support is curt and telling no, they don't have that anymore. I can't find it on King's site, I can't find it anywhere else in the wild, so I thought why not ask here. LOL

And no, buying a new Garmin/Avidyne is not an option - I wish I could have had the funds to drop for the Avidyne stack back when I did this about 8 years ago.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Assuming you still have it installed and you're on a windows laptop, you might be able to fiddle with the "Compatibility Mode" options. Right click the executable, hit properties, and then compatibility mode. Perhaps run as an older version of windows and see if that helps.

Thanks for posting - I tried this approach and it still fails. I wish the support for this was as good as the support for their databases.

If it's an old Windows app, and it sounds like it is, there's a decent chance it has everything it needs installed in a single directory. So find that from where it's running from, and copy all the files to a USB or something. Then try running it something else old, and see what it complains about. If you're lucky - and it sounds like you haven't been so far - it'll tell you by way of error what other files it doesn't have if it won't run. Depending on how old, those might be in windows\system or windows\system32. You might need to look back at what version of Windows was around in the year that sim was made, then track down a local mom and pop computer place or hobby person and get a system that will run that. VM might work...but some of the weird apps don't always play well in a vm.

Alternative, get a battery tender or plug in for the plane and play there. Wish you the best!
