Got a letter from Honeywell yesterday about a magnetic variation screw-up in the database. They attribute the problem to Jeppesen and are providing mid-cycle updates to correct it.

Apparently they want folks to take their GPS out of service until a new database is available.

I got the email below. The effective date for the most recent cycle was yesterday, and they had the fixed database available for download at least as early as Monday, so if you did the update at the last minute, you might have gotten the fixed version any way.

After production and distribution of the Cycle 1001 (Effective Date
14-Jan-2010) databases we were informed by our data supplier, Jeppesen,
that the data file that was sent to Honeywell contained incorrect
Dynamic Magnetic Variations for all terminal and enroute waypoint
records. This incorrect database MUST NOT be used for arrival,
departure, or approach operations.

We have received a new data file from Jeppesen and new Honeywell
databases have been produced.

Please immediately download and begin using the corrected Cycle 1001
database file. Your account will not be charged for this second
download of the 1001 database.
