Hi,

New to forum...

Wondering if anyone has been to Bar Harbor recently and has any insider tips as it's been years since I've flown in. Older forum posts seem to show an older FBO name, etc. We'll be coming from NYC area assuming weather looks good; though I'll likely file IFR anyway. (And will call FBO just to check on current prices, etc.)

We got lucky and wife got hotel for mid August for a few days so planning a couple of days in town, whale watching, probably the Cadillac Mtn. sunrise and other kid-friendly things. We'll likely taxi to hotel and use the free shuttle for everything else. (Even if cheaper, I don't want to deal with shuttle all the way to town just to get another to hotel with bags and kids.)

Any idea of how busy? Meaning, any issues getting tie-down for at least a couple of nights?

Thanks for the updates. Great write-up in the magazine.

Assuming weather is ok by mid next month, we're fortunately going up mid-week, so it shouldn't be quite as crowded. We'll see if the wildfire smoke is still a problem by then. I'm fine flying up IFR and it's only 2 - 2.5 hrs depending on route and winds, but clouds are different than subjecting family and kids to smoke at altitude!

I think we're skipping the sunrise at Cadillac thing. We're not bothering with a car as the shuttle covered most of what we want to do and there's no way I'm getting family up early enough for it. Our hotel is just a stop or two away from the center of town bus station, so that will do fine. Will definitely check cruise schedules, but chances are we'll just try to get on the shorter whale watching trip on day 2.

Will post how it all works out if we don't get weathered/smoked out.
