Just Another Pilot

In that video I think he said "I got my license 5 years ago", any idea when that film was made? I'm sure he's been flying longer than 5 years.

Well, it was posted here in September of 2007, so at least that old! http://www.pilotsofamerica.com/forum/showthread.php?p=219402

Oh, and Steve Stafford, who did this video, was also a director on Six Days and Seven Nights back in 1998, and Harrison Ford was the actual pilot for the Beaver on that movie, IIRC. He had to do some arguing with the insurance company.

I think I saw Ford saying he bought his Beaver after flying the one in the movie.

I show that video to students when the subject of movie stars as pilots come up. Ford's discussion of flying, the look in his face and the deep-felt passion heard in his voice almost brings tears to your own eyes. The man is a true aviator.

Other living actors and current pilots are John Travolta, Morgan Freeman, Michael Dorn, Ed Norton, Lorenzo Lamas and Kurt Russell. I mention only the ones I know who have been outspoken on aviation and it's a large part of their life. I won't mention those who have treated it as a fad or just something they do because they have the money. There are enough of those throughout aviation. I appreciate those who are in it because they love it and they promote the passion of flight. There have been many actors/pilots over the years, some having obtained their initial flying skills in the military but continued in their civilian life.

Recently, I heard a story from a lady at our FBO about Ed Norton. She was flown to Kentucky as back-up staff for the large amount of traffic expected during the Kentucky Derby. Ed Norton came in on a Citation and was unloading his own bags along with the ground crew. UPS was in full operation that day. It had been raining so the runways were wet. She said a UPS 757 was departing and Norton stopped to turn and look. She said his face showed awe as he watched the 75 roll and depart the runway, leaving a beautiful swirl of water mist behind. Such a story makes you wonder what it would be like to fly with the man.

Craig Ferguson is a soloing student with 120-something hours in a T182. He said he'd never take his kid or wife in the plane. Too dangerous.
