Tonight, when I was downloading the next cycle of data for the GPS, JSUM pushed me to update the JDM. So now I'm on the new program.

We discussed this last in this thread: http://www.pilotsofamerica.com/forum/showthread.php?t=85466&highlight=jdm

Anyone have any other news to share since this thread went dormant? Downloading the data was no issue. I'll report about installing it on the card once I get to the hangar tomorrow.

No, sorry,

I programmed my card yesterday also...but without upgrading.

Used it for the last 2 cycles now. For me the drag and drop aspect does not work. Other than that it did what it was supposed to.

Are you forced to "upgrade?"

From what I understand from the email that Jepp sent out...the deadline is Jan 1.

But I'm not certain. I like the way the current system works and won't upgrade until I'm forced to.

I upgraded to JDM (windows 7), and couldn't program my card, then spent an hour with Jepp support removing JDM and reinstalling JSUM, he couldn.t program my card with JDM either.

As previously reported, downloading the data to the laptop was no issue.

It did take two attempts to get the data to move to the card, but I got it done.

As shown in the photos, I'm using a non-Jepp card reader. This has been what the club has had for a very long time and worked fine with JSUM. Now I can confirm it will work with JDM.

we updated and it doesn't let me program, it's trying to write the 430w database to the hard drive instead of the card. I had to go and didn't want to stand around in the hangar messing with it

Why upgrade from something that works?

Because they're forcing it...reading comprehension James...

Come January 1, you'll no longer be able to use the old system. Some people went ahead and switched.

I've had no issues updating our 430 non waas with the new program. Been doing it for the past 2 or 3 cycles.

I'd wait till the thing which works doesn't work anymore

I'm still on the old JSUM system. (used it today)
Anyone have additional info about the JDM update?

They tried to force JDM on me, but I removed it from their cache.......and continue to use the flawless JSUM.

Used both, I like JSUM, it's clean and to the point, plus a right click on a update more easily shows its exp date.

I wonder the reasoning for the update? It doesn't do anything better or faster?

Well, then, maybe they were blowing smoke up our collective azzes. They clearly said that come Jan 1 the old system would no longer work.

I've been using JDM shortly after it became available for updating a CNX80.

For single unit users like our club, it's no big deal. It's more of an interface change for me. I still download the update when I'm connected to a fat/fast WiFi connection. Then head to the hangar, where I don't have a connection, to update the card.

Since all I'm updating is the "nav data" and don't pull flight charts or terrain, the download/update process is small and quick.

But I can see that the main reason they pushed this update is for larger corporate fleets where a single person is responsible for distributing to multiple aircraft that may have same/similar/different equipment.
