Jetpack Cleared By Zealand Regulators

The only way to make these practical for Joe Schmo is to make them fly like people think they do (movies). Nice perfectly smooth and easy. That means fly by wire and simple controls with the majority of things done by some computer. I dont see it for a while.

Actually the technology has been around for awhile and is quite cheap. A good chip to control a tri copter is 30 bucks. It uses acceleration sensors and even a barometer to establish a nice steady hover.

If this thing can take off and land vertically it might become popular. Problem is that if an engine dies, you can't autorotate. I imagine it could have a BRS but there will be an altitude between takeoff and landing where you couldn't deploy the chute.

I guess it could have a rocket motor system like that used in ejection seats. Push the button, it will zoom up 200 feet and then pop the chute.
