Im in the Dallas area and would appreciate being on the list.

I think Wednesday (the 8th) edges out Tuesday as better for me, but I can do either.

I'm sure I don't have to tell ya locals, but there's something called the National Videogame Museum in Frisco (which is kind of near Plano if I'm reading my maps correctly). Anyone wanna go? Prior to the drinking, on whichever day? PM me if so...
http://www.nvmusa.org

Also, in addition to a mid-week get-together, it looks like I'm going to be giving a public science talk at a bar somewhere in Arlington on Friday the 10th. Will post details when I know 'em. If you're not yet sick of drinking with pilots.

@SixPapaCharlie back yet?

Ping @GRG55 too, who said "maybe the 8th" in the other thread.

He has been playing in the snow over in New Mexico Mountains.

Been fun to read his FB posts complaining how cold he is. And here at his home town, we're sitting around in our short sleeves working on our winter tan.

I’m just laughing at all their ski clothes. Such Texans. Doesn’t he know you can ski in jeans? :)

I think the list so far is

@AggieMike88
@Half Fast
@Salty
@kath
@kayoh190
@JCranford
@BPM

but chime in if I forgot you.

Day was Tuesday or Wednesday, I think... we need to pick.

Time and place not yet set, but generally in the area of Carrollton Plano or Addison

...

I have to be in Houston on Tuesday 7th.
Pretty sure I can make it for the evening of Wed the 8th if that's the date decided.
I'll be staying on the north side somewhere near Love Field so Richardson, Plano, Irving or anywhere else like that should be Uber ride doable?? Not really familiar with the Dallas area at all, so at your mercy.
I think Mike may have already claimed round 1 (based on his footer note), so I'll put dibs on buying the second round.

Everybody in Texas knows jeans are for horseback riding and cattle roundups. ;)

True non-skier ski fashionistas frequent the indoor hill in Dubai. The only place I've ever been where you can shop for your designer outfit and show it off "on the hill" 5 minutes later. :frown2:

Yes. If you're in the KDAL area, you're 15-20 minutes from the Plano/Addison region depending on traffic if we decide on that area. Possibly less how aggressive your driver is.

I wasn't sure where everyone was scattered.... So I'll review the info we have and make a suggestion tomorrow morning.

The hive mind here seem to think Wednesday is the best for our out oft owners (ahem, future Texans). So let's set that in place.

I have a "teach my instructor" lesson that starts about 5:00pm in Denton. I've been getting better at paring down how long it takes me to impart the information. So I should be finished by 6:00 if not a bit earlier....

So how is the group think regarding meeting at 7:00pm? Place still to be determined.

That would be perfect for this future Texan!
Appreciate you taking on the organizer role Mike. Thank you.

Born and bread for the opportunity to rise to the occasion. Rather join up with you guys than loaf around and work on my lesson plan book.

I'll be in the Metroplex on 14-16 January.

Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday are all good evenings for me...

These next two weeks I have later sim times and don’t get out until about 8pm. But I’ll hit you guys up once I’m done and if the party is still going, I’ll swing on by!

7 shouldn't be a problem for me. I've got a busy day that starts early on Thursday, so I probably won't stay out very late.

After looking at different places via Yelp that might suit our needs and tastes..... and trying to determine something that also can accurate the group size..... I am going to suggest Babe's Chicken Dinner House in Carrolton, TX. Also because who hasn't said the "Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner" verbal meme? And we're all winners, right? RIGHT?

All of the food there is very good because they keep the menu small: Fried Chicken, Smoked Chicken, Chicken Fried Steak, or Fried Catfish. And then all the traditional sides, biscuits and yeast rolls you want to consume.

So let's say this place at 6:45 to 7:00pm. I will try to get there a bit earlier so we can get our names on the list for a table.

For those driving, here is the Google Map Link

@Craig ?

I looked at the website... it says Babe's is "BYOB". Can you confirm?
If so, I'll B some B.

Edit: I saw this on the "yelp" site linked to in the post above.

Where did you see that? Sounds more like something one would encounter in Oklahoma, not Texas. :eek: o_O

I'm flying in from Houston arriving about 4 pm; or so American Airline claims. After the last experience in December we'll see. :confused:

Bison. :)

Nah I was saying if I ever go to Texas again I want beeeeeeef. Chickens are everywhere. :)

From what I've seen so far, if you can BBQ it, you can eat it in Texas. ;)

At one outdoor cookout, when the choice was burgers, steak, or grilled chicken, the host manning the BBQ cooker would ask folks,

So, do you want biped or quadruped?

Unable. Last few times I went to a Babe's place, it was with folks not interested in spirits or bear. And I don't recall what I saw at other tables.

But if you wish to bring something, do it.

Do you know of the NTA gathering on Saturday, 11:00am, at 407 Barbecue near FM407 and I-35W?

Wish I could join you but I'm flying back to Orlando tomorrow afternoon for a meeting Thursday morning. Next time!

I thought they invented the internet so you didn't have to travel to meetings.... especially when you're just an attendee.

Harder to do with certain defense-related activities, and I'm part of the review team.

Man. This stuff happens every time I'm out. Flew into Carlsbad this evening and scheduled out until Thursday night.

Next weekend I am overnighting in the KADS area... link up then?

:confused: o_O

I'm playing the American Airlines roulette game again. If I win (in other words AA actually gets me there on time) it's going to be a rough night with no cold beer to celebrate. :eek:

See y'all tomorrow!!

If nada for dinner, we could find somewhere afterwards where whistles can be wetted.

@GRG55, we can go beer-shopping on the way there!

OK, not to be more confusing about other plans this week, but.....

For anyone who can't come to the chicken thing on Wednesday, or who is nerdy, I am going to be giving a science talk at a bar on Friday.
Yes, I said "science talk at a bar". It's a thing.

Here's the deets:

"Tap Talks" at New Main Brewing Company
7:00 pm, Friday the 10th
3533 Marathon St., Pantego TX (which I guess is near Arlington, but what do I know??)
Two topics:
-- "What is the 'Texas Blazar' and why are astrophysicists so excited about it?" <-- that's me
-- "Moon Moment!" <-- by someone else, a local
(The talks are about 20 minutes each, and I have been assured that swearing is allowed.)

I will of course, be at BOTH the Wednesday chicken thing, and the Friday science thing. There will be plenty of beer at the Friday science thing.

Flyer below:

...

Well I am sorry I will miss the Friday eve lecture with suds! I have the weekend booked at a beachfront spa in Midland, TX...they said something about abundant sand.

Beer shopping it is! I notice on the Google maps "stroll down the street" option the picture of my hotel shows a retail spirits establishment directly across from the entrance. How convenient, LOL.

Gonna get out of sim a little late this evening (our instructor is a *talker*), so I won’t be free until almost 9. Have fun tonight everyone!

Sorry to have missed you @kayoh190.

We did have an unexpected attendee.
Apparently celebrating his recent release from rehab with a little beer and blow. He's been assigned a new parole officer.
I expect @AggieMike88 will be by in due course to post more incriminating evidence. Thank you once again for taking the lead to organize it Mike! :cool:
@kath and @Salty it was great to meet you. :)

It was great to meet and chat with you guys. I planned on leaving early but was too interesting. I’m paying for it this morning, as I had to stay up late to prep for a meeting this morning, but it was worth it.

Even got a nice demo ride in Mike’s toy electric car and lived to tell about it. ;)
