. . . but back home he'll always be flying high as a hero. A visit to the American Legion Post, yesterday, brought back a lot of memories of Jack, as well as his brothers, parents, grandfather, and uncles; all of whom were well-known in our little corner of Maine. The image is a little tilted because of the necessary angle to keep the overhead fluorescent tubes from reflecting in the glass.

You 'Nam era veterans might be interested in the story.

Harley, you always have the most interesting threads. Reading of the original USS Elliot, I thought of the San Pablo in the movie, The Sand Pebbles. A whole host of notable actors in that movie but most stirring of course was the tour of duty and the dangers therein.

I can only imagine the courage it took to sail those muddy waters.
