Just got the following safety briefing header from the Palmdale site:

Weather

Temperature 84°
Winds W 10 – 15 MPH

Other Conditions

Humidity – 21; UV – 4

Say WHAT?

It's been warm winter here, but it's still in the 60s further north.

If it's any consolation, Tim, this winter has been astonishingly dry, and the summer fire season is going to suck hard.

The weather pattern is definitely more summer like than winter. Persistent high pressure over EPAC and low pressure over the plains. That forces circulation through the arctic toward you guys. In the summer, BFD. In the winter, well, you know what happens.

Its been a really cold winter for us, but next week we should see several days in the mid to upper 70's

Our snow pac in the Cascades is at 40%, but we are getting more this week. Mt baker Ski reports 20" of new but well below normal.

From the report:
Ahhh, it's BACK! The snowfall continues to stack up here at Baker with over 40 inches of new this week so far and another series of storms is forecasted to head our way through early next week.

It's winter here. So far, 27 inches of snow in the past three days, and it's still snowing.

Did young eagles this morning never got over 65. Going to fly tomorrow, going to be low 70s. Feel sorry for all the pilots still getting snow and ice, plenty of room in Fla.

It's 85 right now. I'm going to have to put shorts on. I will be really upset of if I need to turn on the AC in February, but we could top 90 this weekend.

Nice pictures but a little chilly looking.

Neither the cold nor the snow particularly bother me. The town and county do a great job clearing it up, and I'm pretty good with a shovel.

The thing that worries people down the hill is what happens in the spring when all that snow runs into the river. Warm days followed by cold nights are especially problematic: The snow melts into the river, and then it freezes up in spots and backs things up.

They've been measuring a weakening magnetosphere and some 'bald patches' around the globe, interesting to see if we have a polar reversal and if the changing weather patterns are associated.

Too much science fiction.

A pole reversal will probably take decades at least, and will affect magnetic compasses and little else. The field is unlikely to go to zero, and even if it did, it's not significant for weather.
