August 14, 2014, while under way to photograph (who knows yet, how many?) islands as far as 120 miles up the coast of Maine. This is a cropped portion of a wide file of 37 MB.
Terrific flying day!

Now where's the rest of the pictures?? :)
I've already been castigated because my files are so large; and the one above is but a snippet of the original which included surrounding area of one large school, two baseball diamonds, large public utilities building, and upwards of 50 - 75 residences on various streets of the town. The granite quarry on Stoninton looks awesome from the air. It's the one which, in part, built Grand Central Terminal in NY and many other famous buildings.

Harley, c'mon man. I was only trying to help and I will continue to do so because, well, fk, I was only trying to help. I won't even bring up your obnoxious capitalization and apostrophe comment.
I don't mean CROP stuff out of your photos, I just mean resize. I had a hard time finding a good example from my photos because they have already been resized.

Quick tidbit, and I'm only saying this because I don't know who knows what, but:

1024kb = 1mb

I checked a few of my photo folders and at quick glance my average image size is around 200kb. I'll be generous and say the average recent photo you posted (not including the one in this thread) is about 13mb, or 13,312kb, or around SIXTY SEVEN times as large. I believe that's the same as saying you're OK with paying $402 for a gallon of avgas while I'm paying $6 for the same gallon. Now that's not entirely fair to you because your photos are awesome and maybe your CLIENTS, which we are not, are more than willing to pay you good money for your photos, but this is what we call the 'internet' and not only aren't we paying for them, we aint freakin waiting for them to download either.
So all I'm saying is, it is GOOD PRACTICE not to upload (or email) ridiculously large files, but to resize them if you can. In this case, my pic was originally 3,928kb, or 3.83mb and after resizing is now 335kb, or .32mb. .32mb. sorry, did I repeat myself?

A real easy way to resize (NOT CROP) is to simply open them in something like MS Paint (free, junk) and choose the 'resize' option, like I did for the following photo. Are you able to tell the difference between the two, at a quick 'internet' glance (NOT from a CLIENT PAYING A LOT OF MONEY glance)? Here's another tidbit: hover over the two images, it'll give you some basic info about the files, including the sizes.

So there you go, I was only trying to help, as I read three of your recent posts hoping to see your awesome pics but after waiting a long time for your images to load, and eventually giving up, I figured I'd pass on this information. Feel free to PM me if you have any further questions. And now I'll go back to not using caps, since this is the freakin internet, not a homework assignment.

I thought that 1000 mb = 1 b. And I never thought that a bit could be split into something smaller. :rofl:
Sorry, couldn't help it. I am a stickler for proper use of units.

As for file upload sizes, the board should have a limit. Any attachment has a cap for its size. Is that not working or are you guys talking about a different issue?
Because with the current caps, one should not be able to upload 37 MB worth of a picture, that would be crazy.

Thanks for your dissertation. I just don't have time to dedicate to downsizing the thousands of images in my shoots while thinking "this one" might get posted to the Internet at some point. Re email content of photos inserted, I can quickly shrink each to as small as a postage stamp or whatever size appropriate to the purpose, not having to have at hand a reduced file. That simple procedure doesn't work in most forums.

Of the roughly 85 islands photographed thus far, I have about 800 images. The island "spotter" on board may say, "Get the cove on this one; and there's a campsite on the other side. Can you get a shot of the kayaker down there on the beach area?" "That little shelter on that one was built in 1993 by a fellow whose boat sank. He swam to the little island and wasn't found for several weeks out here in the middle of nowhere. When he died he left money for the perpetual care of that little island."
We do a lot of low-level circling of just about every island and there's about 115 more to do. That's the fun part, though tiring. Really tiring is the post processing of the images which then go to the Association for cataloging in preparation for the book to come. Certainly, not all will be used but must be prepared for possible use; They will be in the Association's master files and available for membership viewing, though coded as Restricted re Saving As, or Print modes. "Prints/enlargements available for purchase exclusively through the photographer." Now, back to post processing.
