How cool is this?
Sporting an aviator's helmet with goggles pushed up on his forehead, a 23-year-old Etter is wearing a big smile. It is 1943, and Etter is headed to the Pacific to fly B-29s.

Now 87 and a retired insurance agent, Etter said the photo inspired him to fly a plane again.

"I didn't have anything to do, and I remember how much fun it was to fly," Etter said. "I wanted to do that again."

He flew solo last week, and on Tuesday, he was piloting a Cessna Skyhawk, taking off from Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport and practicing takeoffs and landings and carrying his first backseat passenger.
