I guess you shouldn't irritate your companions in close quarters sometimes.
Friday the crew of the space station went outside to put in a safing bolt on the mobile transporter. The first thing they did was heave their unwanted companion, space suit and all, overboard for a firey reentry in about 2 weeks. They even gave him a radio and video to yack to earthbound friends during his final days.

Ok, to keep anyone from invalidating their flight medical, his name is SuitSat and no one was actually in the old russian suit when it was heaved over the side. It just looks like an astronaut.

"Reports that the amateur radio equipment tucked aboard the discarded Russian spacesuit launched by spacewalking astronauts Friday had stopped transmitting have proven premature, project officials said Saturday, amid reports from around the world of hearing very weak signals from the orbiting object."

It died:

Then it came back to life:

Anyone have ham radio equipment? Apparently quite a few people are receiving signals. It's even tranmitting video if you're lucky enough to pick up the weak signal.

I listened for it last night. The pass that would have come over Texas was about an hour after I went to bed. Maybe it'll be earlier tonight (I missed the one earlier today).
