is this why they are worried about toothpaste etc?

The watermelon didn't appear vaporised, merely knocked from the pedestal. It did, however, bring to mind the recent MythBuster James Bond 2 episode!

Wow. I'm so glad we have those highly trained professionals at the gates in the airport confiscating this kind of stuff and throwing it into a pile in a garbage can.

This is plain silly. Those with experience with firearms might be able to tell us what would happen if the would be terrorist just filled the pen with gunpowder, just as difficult to detect. I would guess a similar blast, but not knowing the details of the one in the video, and being totally ignorant about gunpowder (other than its chemical composition) I can't say. There are those who wish to keep you frightened, an use images like this. Their motives are not to keep you safe, but usually to push their own agendas.

A pen full of 5F black power and a little knowledge of focusing the blast (that you can find on this thing called the Internet). you could do a lot of damage.

Great! Now they're gonna confiscate our crossword puzzles. :(

they claim "one drop"...

I might point out that one item was powder (permitted under the rules), the other was a quantity much smaller than 3 ounces.

Even the current rules wouldn't prevent this.

But wait! We're safe because they've checked our IDs with black lights and magnifying glasses.

Not to mention the no-fly list with three year olds on it.

Now you have to watch the guy next to you so he doesn't try to light his pen.

Of course they would have confiscated the lighter.

I think the TSA stopped grabbing lighters...just before the time they started going for shampoo. :dunno: As I recall there was amoment of snaity when teh new guy took over and stomped on a few of teh more stupid policies. Then they stupid policy factory went back to work.

BTW, did you know the TSA blog brought to light the idjits in Dallas banning anything with a cord, and they were told to stop that idjitcy?

Okay, so a drop of whatever can make a watermelon disappear? In a video. Floating around the internet.

This demonstrates squat, except that people will believe anything they are shown.

Copperfield made a whole Lear Jet disappear on TV, _and_ got lots of chicks on his private island.
