My bird is in annual and I pulled the plugs under the watchful eye of my mechanic. I am the only one who touched them.

As I inspected and cleaned them, I noticed that the bottom plug on the #1 cylinder has a chip in the ceramic that surrounds the center electrode.
I know that if a plug is dropped it should be pitched immediately, but I am curious whether the plug is instant junk because of the chip?

Thanks!

Garbage, junk & paperweight it is then. I'll order a new one along w/ my oil filter tomorrow. Thanks for confirming what my gut suspected.

If in doubt throw it out. Why take a chance.

OTOH, it probably will spark just fine for a long time. All you're really risking is a pre-ignition meltdown of the piston and/or destruction of the cylinder, perhaps at a fairly critical moment.:no::no::no:

Well, all cylinders passed compression checks again this year, so $60 (incl. a spare) is a small price to pay to avoid your scenario.
