is dr bruce confidential and the best?

I'm working with Dr Chien on my medical now. Yes he is confidential, but keep in mind that once the official exam starts, all AMEs are required by law to report if you fail. But if you work with him on a dr-patient basis beforehand, he'll make sure you know all the facts before you get to that point. I'm not qualified to make the claim that he's the best, but it certainly seems like he knows the minefield of airmen medical issues like the back of his hand. If you want to be confident about getting your medical, yes I would recommend Dr Chien.

No he wasn't. His thin skin and childish reactions are legendary. A real pro can take some disagreement in stride but not him. Jay had an interesting point. May have been incorrect but we'll never know since the reaction was so far from professional.

If I had followed his medical recommendations regarding cancer screening I'd be dead right now. He just demanded everyone follow the BS mantra being pushed by insurance companies and the government:

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/us-pane...screening-prostate-cancer-in-men-of-all-ages/

which has since been proven wrong. A real pro would approach it like my Oncologist did, thank God!

So my respect for his medical qualifications is also well known and repeatedly belittled and insulted by his little gang of cyberbullies that jump in with their name calling and insults. Just watch here, they'll be coming along shortly....:yesnod:
Screening is a controversial and complicated. Here is some interesting reading on the subject of using PSA for prostate cancer screening.

ABSTRACT The results of randomized studies on the early detection of prostate cancer and those of a systematic Cochrane review are compiled and interpreted. Some fundamental and inherent weaknesses of screening studies are pointed out and discussed. The meta-analysis of studies involving a total of 321,594 participants shows no reduction in prostate cancer mortality or all-cause mortality, but describes disadvantages such as unnecessary biopsies, overdiagnosis, and overtreatment. A relevant increase in overall mortality cannot be excluded. http://www.researchgate.net/publica..._cancer__Harm_verified_benefit_not_verifiable

ABSTRACT An underappreciated characteristic of prostate cancer screening is that it may detect some prostate cancers solely by serendipity or chance. Serendipity, previously described in the detection of colonic neoplasms, could affect prostate cancer detection when a screening test result is abnormal for reasons other than the presence of prostate cancer, but prostate cancer is coincidentally detected during the subsequent evaluation of the abnormal screening result http://www.researchgate.net/publica...of_prostate_cancer._Serendipity_strikes_again

With all the excellent medical schools out there your telling me this is the only Doctor to contact for pilot medical problems? give me a break. The one who did my medicals, until I went light sport, a Hopkins grad, was plenty sharp, flew a bonanza and a helicopter. He knew the drill well. .........and on top of this the doc is " sensitive"? Get a grip!

and yet, who spent personal time for free on web boards helping out airmen with medical problems ???

What did that physician study at Hopkins? There is a huge difference in being a medical specialist and knowing how to deal with the FAA medical department.

He studied internal medicine, served some time in the Air Force and saw you in person, doing a very intense physical. If he had felt I should not have flown for any reason he would have simply told me to stop. He realized the FAA was troublesome at times and took all this into consideration. As the song states some " cannot keep from keeping on" .

I engaged and paid Dr. Chien for assistance. Open, honest, transparent with him. Received perfunctory attention and response, with little to no useful assistance in exchange for payment made.

Understand my experience may be the exception rather than the rule. However, please note that good experiences with his services are not universal.

YMMV.

Odd. Was he unwilling to do your medical, or did he say that you were unlikely to get one?

And my experience was quite the opposite. He guided me through potential landmines, told me what data that I would need, and spent a lot of time during the consult part so I could get my act together. IMO he is an extremely knowledgable resource and a true professional. Sorry that your experience wasn't like mine. Are you the OP?
