If I wanted to place a club, EAA, or similar sticker/logo on the exterior of my aircraft, is it necessary to apply for a STC?

I myself wouldn't put a sticker on a paint job likely to run tens of thousands, but it is a free country.

Preventative maint, just keep it off the control surfaces lest some over anal inspector ask how you balanced it.

Yoshimura stickers make my motorcycle go faster, so I don't see why they wouldn't make my plane climb higher.

Customs require you to stick one on too, if you cross the border.

This is great news, i've always wanted to put my last name across the windscreen in oversized old english letters.

Aww...

I was thinking a giant "No Fear" sticker and one on the rear window with Calvin peeing on a Piper logo.

Maybe some political stickers!

Or a "Your kid sucks because my kid's an Honor Student and I'm such a prick I want to grind it into your face at stop lights" sticker, too!

Maybe... Just maybe... I misread that last one. ;)

Ooh! I know! One of those sets of blue plastic balls you see hanging from the pickup trucks would look nice on the tail tie-down ring, too!

;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

I have seen a picture calvin peeing on a piper, it was on a 150

There's one at our airport on the local 135 operations door.

Funny I never seen any stickers that depict peeing on a cessna . Must be the Cessna folks feeling inadequate.

I've seen one plane painted in Grateful Dead livery and more than one Grateful Dead stealie on planes. I always thought "Those dudes are asking for a ramp check" One of my buddies bought a Musketeer and it has a huge Micky Mouse sticker on the vertical stabilizer, you can guess what it says under it. The plane is registered to Royal Rodent LLC.

Hmm... When I was in the Coast Guard I had "SAVE ME FIRST" on the back of my flight helmet.

Maybe I should get that in a cling-on label and stick it on the inside of my window whenever I'm teaching. <sarcasm> THAT'LL inspire student confidence! </sarcasm>

this got a laugh during the tour.

Just don't forget the weight and balance recalculation and logbook entry.
If it gets faded or damage, it must also be placarded "INOP".

As long as it's not one of those stick figure families with all the kids and dogs.

Ah yes. The "here's how many ankle-biters are screaming in the back of this vehicle so you know why I'm driving this minivan by curb feel" stickers.

;)

The little free-hand logo on the left is the Harley-Davidson sketch; the
# ( in its center is my Maine MC License plate #.

The only thing to be aware of with stickers is that for some composite aircraft, the manufacturer have limitations on the color and size of stickers. This is to avoid heat buildup and damage to composite structures based on a change to the surface.

For some reason I see lots of stickers with different sized sea-turtles on the back of minivans around here. Not sure where that comes from.

I would bet half the acro crowd have stickers from various clubs, products, their names, etc. on their planes w/o STC's, same would be true of airshow pilots with their sponsor's stickers.

We are going to raise the attention of some bureaucrat who feels he has no purpose, I expect an NPRM shortly regarding the FAA's planned restrictions on exterior placards. Someone will look back to find all the crashes in which placards impeded the pilot's view or altered the airflow resulting in substandard flight performance. Isn't it the goal of every FAA paperpusher to have an AD with their name on it?

I saw one of those the other day with dad, mom, 4 kids, a dog, and a cat. But dad was "x"ed out with what looked like medical tape. And yes, it was a mini van.

I think dad got the better part of the deal.

maybe SSA should lobby for a sailplane tax credit to make up for not having kids.
