Well, I had a very rewarding oral IR exam today. I was nervous and got very little sleep (yes, I know, a Captain Ron violation), but I had a successful oral exam, and received some great insight from a very experienced aviator.

However, due to the little hurricane over Wisconsin today, I experienced some ADM and elected to defer the flying portion until next week. METARS were:

KUES 241845Z 25020G40KT 10SM BKN033 16/08 A1982
KUES 241745Z 24022G31KT 10SM OVC028 14/08 A2982

We were scheduled to fly around 1600Z. I'm disappointed I couldn't finish it today, but I think I got some points for ADM by recommending that we defer today (even though the DPE wouldn't conduct the flying portion in IMC anyway).

So far, my IR checkride was not nearly as bad as I had envisioned. I'm looking forward to the flying portion.

Congrats on passing the oral portion Stan. Too bad weather didn't cooperate to do the flying portion but as you said, good chance to score safety/ADM points with the examiner.
