I used to have an old company Blackberry phone and it allow me to have certain alert sounds based on the subject of an email, we used this for urgent work related issues.

Now we have all moved over to iPhones and from what I can see is there is no similar feature in iOs 7 or 8.

I know there are apps like eNotify but they require access to our company exchange servers, which isn’t going to happen.

Are they any apps that only analyze the inbox on the physical phone.

Have you looked at adding the senders to a "VIP" list. I think you might be able to do it that way.

Don't iThings have a function for urgent alerts? My BBerries have had that... well, forever. They call it "Level 1 Notification" or some such thing.

I'd be very surprised if iThings don't have some similar function buried in there somewhere. Then all the senders would have to do would be set the message priority to urgent.

(Another workaround would be to send a cc to the phone's text message email address when it's urgent, I suppose.)

My iPhone 5 buzzes and bings for every incoming email & text. It's the ball and chain from work. Much prefer my Samsung! Droids are so. Uh more user friendly--I can do what I want. The ithingy only let's me do what IT wants, in the way that it prefers.what I want doesn't enter much into Apple's way of thinking, it's all about controlling the users.

Agreed with the VIP list suggestion above; put your most important senders (your boss, his boss, you top (or all) directs, your HR contact, etc.) i.ist. Turn off audible / vibration alerts for all but VIPs, but leave badge icons on for mail. Then you'll know you have mail when you go to look at your phone, but won't get alerts unless it's from somebody important.

Here's how to do it.
