Last night I discovered when exiting my car that I didn't have my iPad. After searching the car frantically, I remembered putting it on the roof while talking to my student. I instantly knew it was most likely laying on the road somewhere 100 miles back. Well come to find out it was still sitting on the roof of my car even after 100 miles of interstate. It had slid back and flipped over my rear wind guard which allowed the screen cover to act like a wedge aganist the roof. It was a bit cold but completely undamaged.

I'm amazed that it was able to stay attached at 70MPH for over an hour. The only thing I can think, which allowed it to stay, was since the screen cover acted like a wedge it allowed the iPad itself to align with the air flow and keep its "drag" to a minimum.

Anyone been this lucky ?

I've not been unlucky enough to own any Apple products.

You have used up your luck quotient for the week. Better not go flying.

And if you do, make DANG sure you know where tow bar is. :D

Tow bar ALWAYS sits on the floor behind the front seats. Before I turn the key and press the start button, I reach back and feel the tow bar in my hand. Then start. I really don't want to hear "clang clang clang" on start up.

If I have to use my tow bar, I consider my taxi stop to have been botched.

Time to buy a lottery ticket. Looks like you'll only need one.

You mean, like the guy who cut his engine and screeched his 172 over the wings of the Warrior I was tying up a few weeks ago? He missed the Warrior's wingtip by inches with his strut, and almost took out TWO planes I like to fly. Good thing I was tying up the other side of the airplane….

There is a local rule at the club not to power into spaces, as they are packed in very tight (the club is growing leaps and bounds and is outgrowing its available space). Most of us push or pull the aircraft in with a tow bar.

I was not pleased.

Of course I don't do that, but I do pull forward in to my own spot, and if I have to back in some place, I try to position the plane so I can just push it straight back. Failing those options, then the tow bar comes out.

(Why are you bagging on me? I thought we was tight yo)

Well, unless that was you, it ain't your fault…and I'd expect you to be flying the Warrior, not the 172 (even if it is one of those 180 HP conversions).

There really isn't enough space around there to play that try-to-turn-away-from-the-parking-space game. And the MX office door is right behind there, so they don't like the prop wash aimed there either. Can't say I blame them.

Now, if I could just get the smokers away from there while I'm preflighting….there really do seem to be some idiots at this club.

Fortunately my area of the ramp is sparsely populated, and although there are two planes to my side, neither one of the back spots are occupied so I can pull forward without getting close to anyone.

Although, there was a couple months when Ops gave one of the spots behind me to some douche munch with a POS home built that had stuff falling off of it. I got fed up, and after a couple of park jobs where I deliberately angled the plane to look as if I pulled in forward beside it (it would have been impossible without hitting it) they got the message and moved it.

I left my keys on top of the wing of a Cessna one time. After a cross country with a student, plus about 1.5 hours on the ground for lunch, I missed my keys. My student, a really sharp one, said the keys probably fell off when we rotated.

Sure enough, we walked to the runway to about where he rotated, and the runway near the grass we found my keys.

No Kidding...

I've never had luck with lottery tickets, but today might be my chance!

That is one of my worst fears with my students. We have an example tow bar that sits in our training center. It's missing the curved handled from someone leaving it.

One time I left the gas cap sitting on top of the wing (Arrow) and got all the way to the run up area, and fortunately noticed it as I was checking my controls. It was still sitting on top of the wing.

Reminds me of some locals who left a town 25mi away and people were honking and pointing when they got here. Finally someone stopped them. Their cat was attached to the roof (who knows how) and was cold and upset but glad to be let into the car!

I left it on the canopy of the Grumman once. Realized the bang bang during run up was the iPad being slid down the empennage. It didn't break and I realized I didn't really need a ipad for flying. Haven't used one since. I just use my phone and a chart. Ipads are overrated and worthless to me.
