IO-470VO cracked case

Since you are in the air with a mid time engine, why are you rebuilding your old cracked engine? Will that be cheaper than just buying an overhauled or a reman engine? How many years at your current rate will that mid time engine last before TBO?
Rebuilding the cracked engine over a period of time was an option that my shop suggested. They are comfortable doing a hotly debated "field overhaul" on the engine. The way they described it, tear it down, repair/buy a case and slowly build it back up.

I was thinking about selling it to an airboater who would probably put some RTV or JB weld in it and stick it on a boat.

As far as time, at my current rate of flying this particular plane, I am looking at 12-15 years before TBO.

Both engines are at TBO with the last overhaul back in 1998. This plane flies about 50 hours annually now. New engines are stupid priced so there would be little to no value in buying a new one so I am entertaining some options and open to suggestions -

So run the other side and hope for the best?

Unfortunately yes. I just put 2 new engines on our other plane back in May with our partners so the cupboard is a little bare.

May put it up for sale as well for a decent price. With a bad motor it wasn't worth it's own weight in scrap.
