Today, I got a call from a local reporter doing a story on the decline of GA.
Funny how there has been several threads about this, then out of the blue he called.
He was interested in my observations and was I flying the same hours as in past years. When I explained I flew experimentals he wanted to know more. I told him I can burn car gas and save $10-15 per hour over 100ll, I can do my own repairs, replacements, upgrades, and maintenance legally.
He pulled up an FAA web site stating piston powered GA is only growing due to experimental and certified is declining. He was amazed by that until I directed him to what experimentals actually look like today, and that they all have an AW certificate issued by the FAA.
No idea when the article will be published, but the reporter was very "up to speed" on aircraft, maintenance, and experimental -v- certified.
Interesting conversation,
