If I ever thought of proposing this way my wife would have beaten me senseless with whatever she had at her disposal. Fox news comented this morning that the guy was nuts but she was a bigger nutbecause she said yes.

Story apparently was that the guy took his GF flying and faked a control malfunction and then had her get out the POH and read the emergency procedures, but in place of emergency procedures was the proposal.

I saw this on the news as well, and I agree, I'm not sure that I would have survived the flight if I had pulled something like that.

It's not like he faked a big upset, and I'd guess as long as he seemed calm, she would not be too scared.
But still, she's definitely a keeper!

I guess thats one way to do it in an airplane, espiciallyif you dont have family with farms.

Here is the perfered method..

There was a great one awhile back where a controller asked the Captain of an airliner to patch him through so he could announce his proposal to his intended in front of the entire aircraft.

I would hate to be the unlucky guy who took his girlfriend out for a flight, and randomly flew by this guys farm.

I didn't appreciate it, as I got (jokingly) yelled at by my wife for this..she said it was something I would do.

I did something similar but not that extreme.

My preflight checklist is on the word processor so it is a bit customized already. On the first flight with my then relatively new girlfriend, I added "Kiss Passenger with all possible passion". Then I asked her to go down the checklist and read the items for me to do. She read that line out loud, then looked puzzled. "What do you do if the passenger is a man?" Then... "Oh well, anything for safety!" She then puckered up and we did. And again just to be sure.

And yes, she is now my wife!

I proposed to my wife on a plane. I was the copilot on a United Express flight from SAV to ORD.

I bought her a ticket on the flight and tried to bid the trip. I didn't get it and had to pay the awarded copilot the lost pay and put him up in ORD. While in cruise I got on he PA:

"well folks, from he flight deck...we're about an hour from Chicago. Weather ther is clear skies at 85 degrees. We have a special passenger today in seat 6C. She and I have been dating since I was a flight instructor and well, I have a question for her"

I got off the PA and went in back. Normally when you go back nobody pays any attention. THIs time though there were 49 heads cocked over looking at me and one head in 6C bent over looking down.

I went to her, got on my knee, held out the ring and asked her to marry me. She said 'yes' and applause broke out. Then I had to go to the lav as the Captain was concerned about the reg about leaving the cockpit for physiological reasons only thing. Pre 9/11 too. Whatever. It was a great day! We then spent the week in Chicago.

My wife and I got married in two British Provost jets, flying in formation over LAL. Did the vows over the radio and the ring thing on the ground after we landed.

Matt-Was that at Waco? Did you do the farm flyby or did you find that picture?

Yep, that was at the Waco museum, I took that pic before everybody started showing up. I did the farm fly over as well. Took my sister up and her take the photo, the day after a proposed. My brother in law did the fancy spray paint job for me in his back yard

Re: Checklist: Will You Marry Me?

She's a heck of a good sport if she still wanted to marry him after he staged a fake emergency!
