Wow it was just a nice day flying. Lee and I had planned to go to the breakfast series up at KMGJ Orange county NY. And the NE was supposed to be severe clear today just a great day for flying. Well out of every darn field in the North East. KMGJ was 200 ovc till about 11 or so when it went up to 600. So we bagged it and went to KLNS to grab lunch and look at the new DC X-11 headsets at the pilot shop. Watch out bose these are nice!!!
There was a broken layer from about 3700 up to 4600. The layer was pretty dense but not thick. So you guessed it I filed for 4000 I think I was the only guy in IMC on a beautiful VFR day.
It was great flying with Lee a helpful co pilot and pilot as he flew the homebound leg VFR. We did see our share of bone heads. On the way out we were in the clagg for about 50% of the trip and occasionally blasting out the sides of the clouds into the clear. In one hole we saw a knucklemut kind of trapped in the hole. He was only 2miles from us and he couldn't decide what direction he wanted to go first we looked and thought Shi& he is going in the same cloud we were about to enter and he is VFR and aint' talking to ATC. At one point Lee saw him turn right toward us. I could have sworn he stood that plane on its tail trying to climb over the cloud then dove to try to get under then turned right toward us. Philly APP was going nuts as they had to shut down KPNE for an emergency for an hour and were diverting stuff and had what seemed like a gajillion VFR flights asking for FF. Thankfully they vetored us away from the bonehead.
Had a great lunch. Loved the X-11s saw some good flight bags and claimed KLNS for the CONUS. Lee flew home and I enjoyed listening to the knucklemuts on the CTAFS we had two "Any Traffic in the Area please Advise" and one guy asking a King Air on down wind to Pennridge if he was gonna use the entire runway. I loved his response " If we need to" LOL
Well it was a great day to fly got some good IMC and really enjoyed getting to fly with Lee.
