I saw this 4 Forces of Flight diagram early on in my PPL training. I chuckled and thought that was cute . Now, as I'm shopping for my first plane and negotiating with the wife, I realize how true this diagram really is.

In one of his columns Gordon Baxter once penned the observation that the cost of flying was exactly the same as it was fifty years earlier...all ya got.
