. . . I went flying today. . . . the tape holding my vent in my pilot window started to fray so I went looking for duct tape.

Yes. It's true. I have the only hangar in America without duct tape.

Ugh.

I remember bringing it home when I thought about it - and then realized - how could I have a garage without duct tape either?

If it moves, and it's not supposed to - duct tape.

If it doesn't move, and it IS supposed to - WD40.

That comprises the redneck toolkit (according to my wife).

Do you at least have any WD40?

NOT for the plane! Never! WD40 attracts dust and grime.

I use only Tri-Flow. Not the cheapest, but it's also in my Maintenance Manual. It makes things slickerer and smootherer than WD ever could.

Keep it in the trunk of my car,in several colors. Also carry cleaner wax and wd 40.

Proudly duc{k|t}-free for over 5 years.

Hate the stuff. Glue goes everywhere, sticks when it shouldn't, doesn't stick when it should, doesn't weather well, etc. There are many better tapes.

Duct tape == The Force

Has light side
Has dark side

Holds the universe together

You forgot the 20 oz swing press labeled "Persuader".

Gorilla brand tape is a lot stronger than most of the duct tape on the market. And don't forget the all important Harley-Davidson #1 tool. The short handle 2lb sledge hammer.

Nothing says poor workmanship like wrinkles in the duct tape.

And the true connoisseur of lubricants keeps Boeshield in the hanger instead of WD-40

Don't you also need one of those service kits to tighten up the little screws in your eyeglass temples that keep backing out every time you ride? :D

That's gaffer tape. If you've ever been backstage in a theater, it really does hold the universe together.

During college, had a student job in the university theatre as a stage hand. And I agree.

Duct tape is to workmanship as a hammer is to jewelry making.

If it's broken once it will break again. Fix it and forget it. Use the duct tape to impress your redneck friends, don't actually put it on your aircraft.

hmmm.....I wonder how much attention from the FSDO an airplane would generate if the owner put duck tape on blemishes in the paint? Does it make the plane un-airworthy (weight issues aside)?

any volunteers?
