Hello all!

I've wanted to learn to fly for as along as I can remember. A mid-life career change (for the better) has now put that goal within reach!

I've been up in my friends Cessna 140a a few times, and I loved every moment of the experience. I'm holding off on my first lesson until I have a SI for my medical. I don't want a broken heart from being denied over a broken heart that required ablation for arrhythmia.

Wish me luck on my journey!

Gabriel

I don't know anything about that - does that condition affect your ability to safely fly?

If not, have you considered sport pilot? If the restrictions are no factor for you, do that instead of going through the FAA medical process. That 140 should be eligible under MOSAIC.

I am currently asymptomatic, so I do not believe it will affect my ability to safely fly. The final determination will be up to FAA.

Perhaps after (if!) I receive my SI I will transition over to basic med.

The 140a is definitely not my airplane! It's beautiful, and lots of fun to be in it, but it's not mine. Also, my legs are on the long side, so I think I would have significant difficulty comfortably flying a plane of that size once I start my lessons.

Gabriel, have you actually applied for a medical yet? If yes and if you were deferred, you have no choice but to wait for the SI... but if not, don't apply, just fly under the newly expanded Sport Pilot rules (unless your future plans involve getting an instrument rating of carrying multiple passengers).

I had an appointment with AME for my third class medical. The decision was deferred to FAA. FAA sent me a letter requesting medical records and some specific tests. I'm working on all of that now! If I get an SI from FAA, I will strongly consider basic med!

Congrats, good luck, and welcome to POA!
