I’ve been working on a little aviation project that started because I got tired of doing the JDM desktop dance/update routine on my own IFD every cycle.

I built a small standalone Wi-Fi device that sits at my hangar with the USB drive left in it. It checks for new database cycles, downloads them, prepares the USB, and tells you when it’s ready to take to the airplane. No computer or app needed.

AVIDYNE IFD USERS:

The IFD version is already working. I currently have NavData, Obstacles, and electronic charts working, and I’m at the point where I’d like to get a few of these out to other users to see how they behave with different Jeppesen subscriptions, IFD configurations, USB drives, networks, etc.

If you fly with an IFD and use Jeppesen, you don’t need to be in Florida. I’d just like to find a few people willing to use it and give me feedback as I continue developing it.

GARMIN GNS 430/530 USERS:

This is the part where I need some local help.

I’d like to see if I can adapt what I’ve built to work with the Garmin GNS 430/530 series, but I need some hands-on time with a real GNS/Jeppesen setup so I can understand the update process and see exactly what JDM is doing.

I’m based at KTIX in Titusville, so I’m looking for one or two GNS 430/530 + Jeppesen users somewhere in Central Florida who wouldn’t mind letting me do some testing with their setup.

I’m not trying to sell anything here. I’m mainly looking for some fellow enthusiast to help me test this outside of my own airplane and figure out what I’ve overlooked. And for your help, if I can get the GNS version working with your setup, I’ll build you one to keep.

If either description fits you, send me a PM.
