If only...[rant]

I've got pretty serious liftmaster openers because my doors are sheathed in plywood so that they match the hangar door. The springs on jackscrew are dang scary. I let the pros work on those. The opener is pretty simple other than that and I've adjusted that countless times (usually after the door closes on the tailgate or something and it loses sync with the position counter, my wife loves to just push the door close buttons when she enters the house without regard to whether there is something in the way onr not).
Multiple sensors. One at floor height, one at tailgate height, one at hatchback height, one at...

I pointed at my head and said "I hear voices."
Might want to talk to Doctor Chen about that.

I suspect that apprentices are unceremoniously drummed out of the Carpenters Guild should they so much as touch a level or a square. In every door that I have had issues with the tracks are out of square and level, because they are attached to a wall or joist that is out of square and level, because they are attached to . . .

I went to finish the upstairs of my house a few years back after said floor had gone up in flames in a fire. (Lightning, I had closed but hadn't moved in yet.) Brand new floor joists install by the repair company. Footprint about 18' x 54' where I had to finish. It dropped almost 5 inches from the NW corner, to the midpoint of the south wall, and was about 2" difference overall from W --> E.

They couldn't even bother to level it when they repaired it. I ended up having to take laser measurements every foot, and turn 2x4's and 2x6's into huge shim pieces, and put floor deck on top of that.

Our last house was apparently used for all the leftovers from when others on our cul-de-sac were built. Two different breaker panels - meaning, two different brands. Interior doors didn’t match.

And when we put in laminate floors and new baseboard, there was not one square corner in the house. My wife said they built the house with a hammer in one hand and a beer in the other.

I kicked around tankless, but the ones I look at require 240V and I'm out of breaker space. Instead I'm running 2 40gal NG in parallel. Which has been good because twice I've had one spring a leak and was able to still have hot water until I got around to replacing the leaky one. I have two because I have a soaking tub that would only end up at around 75 degrees on a single 40 gallon.
Oh man. When I had the two girls at the house I installed two 80 gals hot water heaters, on a manifold. That way Dad had hot water when he got home, and if one cracked I could operate until the weekend....
