Since American doesn't go over well here, I'll just have to be an Western-European-American.

If the topic comes up, "What do you do for fun?" My answer is, "I like to fly airplanes."

That usually gets the following response...

"Oh, so you're a pilot?"

Facepalm.

"Nope, I've got a truck drivers license that works in a pinch. Here's your sign."

I get that - but it's usually, "Oh, you got a pilot's license?"

I give them a line like I gave the FAA guy who ramp checked me as I came back from a student solo flight...

"Do you need some kind of special license or something to fly these?"

FAA guy was pretty laid back, didn't even blink. "Well, no, it just means a lot more paperwork for me today."
