Icing forecast FIP vertical resolution

Aviationweather.org shows vertical resolution of the icing forecast product (FIP) in 3000 feet increments.

Leidos shows it in 1000 feet increments.

Is Leidos’ 1000 feet resolution just interpolated between the 3000 feet resolution or does the FIP computer model indeed produce a 1000 feet resolution product and Aviationweather.org is just not displaying at 1000 feet vertical resolution?

thanks; I can't even find the icing product on 1800wxbrief.com - can't see it under maps or charts.

Well, to start they both have terrible horizontal resolution being guesses at best (although an educated guess), so vertical resolution is irrelevant. Trying to use these forecasts to thread between icing areas is nuts. Just understand that ice is a possibility, solicit pireps from atc, avoid those areas. Understand that icing conditions typically are very dynamic, an area that was reported by a pilot as negative ice can become moderate or worse in 15 minutes or less. This happened to me.

Icing for a small airplane will be different than icing for an airliner. Avoid precip, try to stay out of the clouds when temps are favorable for ice. If you mess around near ice, at minimum you should have a tks system, better yet a FIKI system. Even then, avoid ice unless you have a clear and sure exit if the ice you penetrate is worse than expected.

But the bottom line, and the reason for my comment, is the ice forecasts are just a little better than useless most of the time, they both suck.
