Iceland livestreams 10-year-old McDonald's cheeseburger

I don't eat there (MacDonald's or Iceland) mainly because I assume it is terrible for you.
Is MacDonald's is any worse than burger king, taco bell, or other fast food joints?

It gets a terrible rap but I wonder if that is fast food in general or if they are really the bottom of the barrel.

As noted in the last line or two of the article... without sufficient moisture, most food will just dry out and not rot. Leave a cheese sandwich in a glass case for a few years and you'll see the same result -- even if it's super healthy home baked bread and imported organic Italian cheese.

True story.

I found a box of Twinkies in the garage since the house was new (20 years old). The plastic wrapping was starting to decompose, but the Twinkies themselves looked and tasted exactly the same as they did when they first rolled out of the factory.

I actually like regular Twinkies but I saw an Abomination at the grocery store a couple weeks back and that was pumpkin spice Twinkies

I guess Twinkies are being made again, by whatever company took over Hostess.

This has been done several times in the past. Why do people act like it’s such a surprise???

It's because some of us aren't aware that it has been done several times in the past. Donkeys with strippers populate the Internet more than time lapse fast food decay videos.

If you type ‘McDonald’s burger time lapse’ on YouTube, you’ll get a few dozen hits. I watched one a couple years back where the guy took a Mickey D’s burger and did a time lapse comparison between a natural burger he made from fresh ingredients at home. The homemade burger began showing signs of decay very quickly, the McDonald’s burger didn’t flinch for a long time.

Wow, I've discovered a whole new genre of Internet porn. Now if they could introduce bikini clad girls in to the equation like the rest of them...

There’s a website for that.

About to say slow day in Iceland, but I think they are all slow days in Iceland lol

Good job reminding folks you exist!

It closed in 2009.
Iceland was in the middle of a big health crisis and I believe that was part of their leaving. Their crisis in part fueled by the fact that they produce virtually no food locally and cheap food is usually bad for you food

And the financial crisis hit them HARD since they rely on tourism $$$.

This must be what they do to pass the time between active volcanic ash fallouts

And the financial crisis hit them HARD since they rely on tourism $$$.

The gal who runs my office, a geologist in an earlier life, went there for a holiday a couple of years ago. Glaciers, geysers, volcanic rock, ash. We labelled it her 50 Shades of Grey tour.

I've never had any urge to go there myself.
Instead I could stay home and watch the grass grow......

Yep. That’s pretty much the whole story.

Except that nobody would read a one-line sentence about dried food not rotting. So they added McDonald’s and Iceland and fries, and a webcam, and then it starts to look like a story. But it still isn’t.

For what it's worth, I just thought the idea of someone maintaining a live feed of an old cheeseburger for 10 years was itself amusing. I guess you have to have set up and maintained live feeds (and thought about the bandwidth costs at 400,000 visits / day) to get the humor in that.

My chiropractor has a full McDonalds meal in an open clay pot in her office, completely open and exposed to the elements. It's going on 7 years old and looks like it was made, well, yesterday probably. That is not normal.

I gave a co-worker a Twinkie with a candle in it to celebrate his birthday back in 1990.
He tells me it's still sitting on his desk.
No mold, just crispy.
