There was a ad in the Seattle Craigslist and I responded. Here was the reply. Should I send a check right away because it is such a good deal?:goofy:

This aircraft has absolutely no mechanical problem, without any leaks.
I am letting it go for $13000, shipping and handling included. I am selling it because my husband died and I don't need it anymore. Now it is at a warehouse in Portland, Maine, ready to be delivered to its buyer with all the documents.
Because I am not able to close the deal myself, I have chosen to use a third party company to handle the sale. This way we are both protected.
Let me know if you're interested and if you have questions.

I would guess it is a scam.

Tell her your brother lives in Portland and you want him to go look at it. If she gives you the storage address, you can call the warehouse to verify it is there. Smells a lot like a scam to me...

No leaks, warehouse kept, all the documents, delivered for $13000. Seems legit...

A friend of mine buys and sells planes on the side and ran into a different kind of scam a couple of weeks ago.
While this one posted here is easy to spot based on the canned language, the scammer he was dealing with had it set up pretty well. Logbook copies, pictures, detailed equipment list that matched the pictures, logical component times etc. (this plane had not been in any of the rags recently). The price was good but not crazy-good. It was all rigged to look like an estate sale, an executor trying to clear out a hangar. A couple of things were just a little odd, the most well meaning interpretation would have been that someone not familiar with airplane transactions was trying to handle it similar to a real-estate or exotic car deal.
I live close enough (1hr flight) to the supposed location of the plane that I was going to look at it for my buddy to make sure that it was legit. The tipoff that it was a scam was that when he mentioned to the 'seller' that he would send someone by, the 'seller' offered to lower the price and threw in a new 696 but started to push to get a deposit to an escrow service nobody had ever heard of......

Based on how well that scam was put together, I suspect that someone who has access to the aircraft (A&P, CFI) is trying to sell it while the owner is abroad or sick.

How many times must I tell you guys that you must know who you are buying from? If I can't call ya no deal. scammers will never allow you to call.
