A few months ago I ran NTSB searches on airplanes in my logbook (after 42 years and 3,200 hours there are quite a few, mostly rentals and trainers). It was a little dismaying to see how many of them had been in serious accidents. One, a pretty 1989 Warrior I used to rent in California, was lost in a college-student pilot's suicide in the midwest; and a Navion I once flew years ago went down under suspicious circumstances, suggesting it might have been another. Ugh.
